'10 Years of Street Fighter 6' : Producer Matsumoto Says They're Locked In On The Current Game Instead Of Future Titles
It looks like fans won't have to worry about last week's Tifa reveal being the last hurrah for Street Fighter 6, as the developers say they hope the game can keep going for at least 10 years.
It looks like fans won't have to worry about last week's Tifa reveal being the last hurrah for Street Fighter 6, as the developers say they hope the game can keep going for at least 10 years.
In an interview with IGN, producer Shuhei Matsumoto explained that when developing Street Fighter 6, they had internally hoped the game would have at least 10 years of cr.MK drive rush action in it.
"I personally want Street Fighter 6 to be running and operating for as long as possible,” Matsumoto says. “When we initially kicked off the project, our internal goal was to hit that 10-year life cycle. But that's why we’re working so hard to improve the quality of the game and to make sure that the characters we introduce are attractive and appealing".
Given Street Figher 6's big appeal with casual players, he explained that rather than start preparing for the next product and hope they all jump ship, the team was squarely focused on keeping Sthe current offering interesting.
“And the question regarding Street Fighter 7, that's not something we’re really thinking about right now. We’re seeing a lot of new players coming into the game right now and we want to continue catering to that particular audience. So Street Fighter 6 and maintaining its longevity is the main focus", he says.
The Road To 10 Years of Street Fighter 6

It's not surprising Capcom would focus on a longer life cycle for a game like Street Fighter 6- its predecessor, Street Fighter V was released in 2016, and its reign lasted until 6's debut in 2023, a full seven years later.
That being said, the game stopped receiving new characters in 2021 with the release of Luke.
Street Fighter 6 is on track to overtake Street Fighter V as the highest selling game in the series- just this week Capcom announced that the sixth entry has sold 7 million units, putting it just 900,00 below Street Fighter V's 7.9 million.
