MoXuan is now playable in MapleStory SEA, bringing martial arts prowess to the long-running MMO. And who better to check it out than a certified combo freak.
When I think back on my time playing MMOs like MapleStory SEA growing up, I usually think of hotbars and cooldowns as I plot to take down swarms of mushrooms. Over the years many MMOs have changed things up, and it seems the same is true with the new MapleStory SEA class, Mo Xuan.

Having tried out Mo Xuan in MapleStory SEA for myself today at a special preview event, it's cool to see a character combine flashy Wuxia aesthetics with MapleStory SEA-style gameplay. More importantly, he combines a much-needed element for people who need a splash of hybrid gameplay to jump into an MMO. That element? Combos.
MapleStory SEA Mo Xuan Playstyle

Using Martial Braces as his main weapon, Mo Xuan is all about comboing skills into each other. Except rather than the typical MMO-style "Set marker, detonate marker" style combo, his is a little more familiar to action game freaks.
He's got two basic attacks: A punch and a kick, as well as a gauge that stores the last two inputs. In exchange, having certain inputs enhances his skills- the pre-made demo character we had skills for a variety of combinations, like single punch and kick, as well as doubled punches and kicks and alternating.

It helps that visually, Mo Xuan's moves look cool. If you told me a MapleStory character was gonna have some of the best looking 2d sprite punches despite their tiny arms, I'd have laughed you out of the room. But the ink-blot-style as Mo Xuan does his fast strikes is genuinely cool, as are the Qi-enhanced blue flames when you do the regular and enhanced skills.

He also does a good job of circumventing the limitations most pugilist-type characters tend to have. Single-target in a game like MapleStory SEA can be rough, so thankfully Mo Xuan makes up for it without straying too far from the martial arts theme.

All his attacks are fairly large, letting him catch multiple enemies in his big kicks. Better yet, his advanced skills also all act as giant screen clears, turning the whole stage into a field of damage numbers as you do a stomp so divine enemies get cleared out.

Best bit? He's got an airdash. Even if this isn't a fighting game nothing feels quite as good as air dashing into your enemy, doing a 1-2 punch before going into a charged rush punch, then landing a big ground slam that screen clears everyone who bore witness to your martial arts prowess.
Mo Xuan is available now as part of the Assemble v248 update for MapleStory SEA, and is great for players who like a dash of STR to go with their DEX builds. If you thought a dash of unique execution would get you into MapleStory SEA, you can try him out for yourself and combo some Mushrooms.
