MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls Fixes Gameplay Issues Based On Fan Feedback

PlayStation and Arc System Works have confirmed that they're changing core gameplay elements of Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls based on fan feedback to the upcoming fighter.

As was first spotted during its most recent trailer, the official Twitter account has just come out with a list of currently implemented changes- ones that players will be able to test when the game is playable at the Arc World Tour Finals this month.

One of the biggest of these changes is a change to how assists work- previously, calling an assist during a combo would trigger the Rush Assist: a generic combo filler that just just extended strings and pressure.

Instead, now players have the option to call out their individual assists, allowing for more combo expression and unique gameplay options compared to the Rush Assists.

Note we still don't know the exact mechanics of this, since Rush Assists appear to still be in the game- but players have the options to call out other assist types instead.

Similarly, tagging out is also much faster with shorter recovery- giving you more incentive to do so as an aggressive form of mixup pressure while your opponent guesses which character will attack next.

These also come alongside changes to the game's autocombo, with the follow-up hits no longer coming out if the attack misses- aggressively punishing people for mashing in neutral.

The full list of currently known changes is as follows:

Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls Current Changes

  • Separation of Tag and Assist buttons (Tag will be assigned to L2 on default)
  • Reduced Frames and Animation Time For Tagging
  • Canceling attacks to trigger non-rush assists
  • Reduced Assist Hitstop and Consecutive Assists
  • Aerial Assist condition changes
  • Calling ground assists while airborne
  • Super Skills no longer cause wallbreak
  • Hard Knockdown on wallbreak
