With Melty Blood Twi-Lumina coming out next year, here are three totally new characters we want to see added to the game
Look, I'm surprised as you are that Melty Blood Twi Lumina- a re release of Melty Blood Type Lumina is coming out. I honestly think Type Lumina was more fun than a lot of people gave it credit for, mainly because it launched during an era where people were still incredibly mad that a sequel to a famously niche game didn't play exactly the same despite having the same characters.
Still, while Melty Blood Twi Lumina has teased its first new character with the reveal of Len, there comes the question: who else is coming? Looking at Type Lumina's roster, it's clear that Aniplex aren't afraid to see this as "The Type Moon fighting game" instead of going all in on Tsukihime. Worse still, the fact we still don't know when we're getting the Far Side routes means that there's a good chance any Tsukihime characters not in the game yet might not come for fear of spoilers.
With that in mind, here are some picks for potential Melty Blood Twi Lumina characters to fill the void till then that aren't just "The entire Actress Again Current Code roster".
Aozaki Touko

You have to give credit to Type-Moon. Fate/Grand Order has basically catapulted them to the Third Magic of anime IP. Fate gets super popular and they've now spent the past half decade going back and pulling older works like Tsukihime and Witch on the Holy Night back into relevance.
Considering Aoko is already in the game, this naturally means Melty Blood Twi Lumina would be the perfect time to bring back Touko, her older sister from Garden of Sinners and Witch on the Holy Night. One of the most powerful mages in Type-Moon's shared setting, Aoko is exactly the kind of maladjusted freak who'd fit in the game. She's beautiful, deadly and most importantly, deep down, still just another girlfail.
In terms of gameplay, Touko would work excellently as a setup character, mimicking her traps from her fight with Aoko in Witch on the Holy Knight. Having both sisters be long range fighters would be an incredibly nice touch- especially if you had the formula of having Touko be faster and more precise than the brute-force nature of Aoko. One hard-set rule is certain though: Her Last Arc should involve her demon in a box. Having references from multiple games would have her feel so much more like a love letter to the tangled mess of the Nasuverse than just a cross-promo.
Francesca Prelati

Just like how Melty Blood Type Lumina had most of its DLC roster come from the ever-popular Fate/Grand Order, I wouldn't be surprise if Aniplex genuinely pushed at least one Fate/Strange Fake character in Melty Blood Twi Lumina. Francesca Prelati has been a standout favorite from the cast, even being the new limited servant for Grand Order's Strange/Fake collab alongside her Servant Francois Prelati.
In terms of her personality, she's kind of the perfect character for Type-Moon to be throwing around multiple settings. She's effectively immortal, jumping to new bodies every time her current one is killed. More importantly she's also kind of an asshole, with a lot of Strange Fake's own plot being the result of her machinations with various mages and the CIA. While characters like Neco Arc exist in the gag space, Francesca could totally be a valid threat in Twi Lumina's arcade mode- who knows what she could do with a bunch of vampires, after all.
When it comes to gameplay, however, the sky's kind of the limit with Francesca. In Strange Fake she's shown to be an excellent spellcaster, having organized the events of the Snowfield Grail War. Given she and Francois are the same person, she'd also have excellent command of illusions, meaning she could pretty much do any kind of gameplay and get away with it. Most importantly, if there's anything the anime and her FGO appearance have shown, it's her sense of humor: As long as its funny, chaotic and a little creepy, you could justify anything with Francesca and it wouldn't be out of character.
Sion Eltnum

A kind of out there guest character, it'd be cool for French Bread to do some kind of cross promotion between Under Night and Melty Blood. Something about Eltnum just feels like she'd fit right in with the game, after all.
Jokes aside, it does feel a little mean spirited that Eltnum was left out of the Type Lumina roster. While you could argue that they wanted to keep the roster limited to characters from Tsukihime Remake, having the Melty Blood-original character left out while Ushiwakamaru, Count of Monte Cristo and Mash all made it in was definitely not a great way to highlight that point. I mean, Artoria is one thing, she's the big Type-Moon character. But Ushiwakamaru, really?
Naturally, there's not much adaptation you'd need from Eltnum to put her in Melty Blood Twi Lumina. She's got her wire, she's got her gun, and she's got her incredibly fun crowd chant that ends in a whole stadium yelling 'RELOAD' and popping off. If she's DLC for Twi Lumina all proceeds should go to the automatic gold medals awarded to Senaru once she releases.
With that in mind, whoever gets in, more Melty Blood content is always welcome. Melty Blood Type Lumina is already a plenty fun game, featuring intense anime fighter combat, an occasionally-overtuned Shield system and a solid cast of characters from Tsukihime Remake. With Melty Blood Twi Lumina set for early 2027, it'll be a fun lead up seeing who else makes it to the game's roster.
