Orwell simulator Ministry of Truth 1984 has announced a public playtest for the game, letting fans take the reins and control their own dystopia.

Developed by False Memory Dept, The Ministry of Truth 1984 playtest kicks off on February 16th, 2026, with players available to request access to it now on Steam.

Similar to games like 1998: The Toll Keeper Story, the game is about doing smaller tasks as part of a bigger social movement- in this case, as the propaganda arm of Big Brother.

Ministry of Truth 1984

Inspried by George Orwell's 1984, the game is a narrative-driven game that lets you be a cog in a dystopian machine- controlling the flow of information from a government that wants the reins on the narrative.

This includes having to take pictures of events happening in the world and figuring out how to interpret them in a way beneficial to the Party- including cropping them into more flattering framing and choosing descriptive words for news headlines.

It's not just the readers who bend the knee though- you'll also need to build up your own stats by seeing the unfiltered events happening around the world, and choosing your reaction to it to build stats like Loyalty and Self-Ambition.

This can also affect things at a smaller scale, such as your relationship with your comrades at work.
