With the reveal of cards from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering Final Fantasy collaboration, one card stands above the Clouds, the Sephiroths, and the Terras: the MTG Jumbo Cactuar.
Aside from Cactuars being just about the most fun series staple next to the Tonberry, the MTG Jumbo Cactuar has a ridiculous ability befitting its status.

Its 10,000 Needles ability reads: Whenever this creature attacks, it gets +9999/+0 until end of turn,
For those of you who aren't familiar with MTG, creature power tends to hover around 6, with even 10 power being considered extreme.
Naturally, due to the reactive nature of MTG's Commander format, this means some incredibly fun plays that you should absolutely try if you get your hands on this beast.
MTG Jumbo Cactuar Combos

The first one is a favorite one I'd use in all of my green decks- Garruk's Uprising gives any creature Trample. Even the tankiest creature is likely to be destroyed by 10,000 power and the overflow in damage is probably going to do just enough above 40 damage to do them in.

Better yet, mix it with something like Choose Your Weapon to double it. If 10,000 won't kill whatever your opponent's blocking with, a 20,000 MTG Jumbo Cactuar might just barely overcome it.

Even better- because Jumbo Cactuar only keeps this buff until end of turn, you can play it alongside cards like Ziatora the Incinerator: this draconic crime lord lets you sacrifice the Jumbo Cactuar, but then deal its enhanced power as damage. If your opponent has somehow avoided the first 10,000 damage, they're probably not expecting to have to stave it off a second time.

If you're really ok with never having friends again, go all in with Chandra's Ignition. This ends the game entirely, nuking every creature and opponent with their own personal 10,000 needle hell.
Of course, just using it for damage is crass. Artless, even. What if you wanted to win by exasperated forfeit?

Swords to Plowshares lets you exile your Cactuar buddy for the best gift of all: a whopping 10,000 Life. You're going to need a lot of copies of Lightning Bolt to deal with someone that far ahead of you in terms of life.
Is playing with functionally unlimited life boring? What about removing mana costs then?

Ruthless Technomancer lets you give yourself 10,000 treasure off Jumbo Cactuar's noble sacrifice, basically meaning you can always afford to play during your opponent's turn or even summon to your heart's content.

If you don't want to do 10,000 damage all at once, consider just swarming the board with tokens: Tend The Pests and Ghoulcaller Ghisa both let you sacrifice Jumbo Cactuar, replacing it with an incalculable amount of tokens.

Better yet, combine it with Altar of the Brood- nothing says "You didn't win" like decking out the whole table, yourself included.
Of course, you might actually win doing any of these. A true combo player knows that the only thing more fun than victory is making sure that your opponent doesn't get the satisfaction of dealing the killing blow: using cards like Rishkar's Expertise or Greater Good, you can deck yourself out and everyone in your pod can finally get on with their lives.

The MTG Jumbo Cactuar is part of the Final Fantasy expansion which launches June 13th, 2025 and features multiple pre-constructed commander decks based on characters like Cloud Strife, Tidus and Terra.
