Pokemon Indonesia has turned Pikachu into a Dangdut icon, as the yellow Pokemon series mascot teams up with Happy Asmara for a new music video.

In a new Pokemon spin on the song Kopi Dangdut titled "Goyang HEPIKA version", Pikachu and singer Happy Asmara present their fresh take on the song to a cafe full of people, happy to do the HEPIKA dance.

The original Kopi Dangdut was written by Fahmi Sahab and released in 1990, predating even Pikachu's debut by several years.

According to representative of the Ministry of Creative Economy Irene Umar, this collab was chosen specifically for how beloved Dangdut is as a genre in Indonesia.

"If you bring up dangdut, it's Indonesia", she says. "If you look at geography or history, it's definitely Indonesian", she says.

"But how do we get dangdut to the international level, the global level?, one way is with this Pokemon collab", she adds.

Of course, it's not just a catchy music video and dancing Pikachu for this collab.

Happy Asmara has said she plans to release a tutorial to do the HEPIKA dance to become a social media trend, so fans can dance along.

Additionally, Pokemon Indonesia has also prepared special merchandise based on the collab.
