Street Fighter 6 Potentially Walks Back Alex Cousin Drama

It looks like Street Fighter 6's upcoming emergency patch isn't going to have anything to do with toning down damage, Drive Rush cancels or even JP- instead it's addressing the Alex cousin situation. 

To recap, the past week since Alex's release in Street Fighter 6 has been wild because of the additions to his story, where it was revealed he was married to, and fathering a child with, his second cousin Patricia. 

In a Tweet today, game director Takayuki Nakayama said that they would be clearing up "confusion" surrounding Alex's backstory. 

"While we have not changed the characters’ backstories,after internal review by the development team, we plan to revise certain text passages that may have been misleading in the near future", he says. 

Additionally, the team put out a new short story titled "A Toast Between Fathers", involving a drunk night between Patricia's dad Tom talking to Alex's late father. 

The Lowdown On Alex And His Cousin

While the short story doesn't give any hints on changes to the story, it's still a fun detailing of Alex and Patricia's relationship growing up. 

Fans had been playfully poking fun at the "Alex Cousin Situation" since the character launched- in both his World Tour story and Arcade mode, it's revealed that he's married Patricia since his last appearance. 

While Alex is a fair bit older than Patricia that's not the problem- at best, just saying Alex married Patricia would have been another childhood friendship-turned-sweethearts story. 

The controversy mainly comes from this additional line, where Alex mentions he wasn't just some runt picked up off the street by Tom- he's actually related by blood. 

Chances are, given they're not going to retcon Alex's whole backstory, if the team is putting this backlash behind them this would be the easiest line to edit- or at least put everyone in Hawaii so they can say cousin in the less literal sense.
