While many fans may remember Virtua Fighter as just being about going head to head in the arcade, RGG Studio are adding a dash of single player magic to Virtua Fighter Crossroads.
In a new trailer shown at Summer Game Fest as well as a follow up showcase, the team talked about the new story mode feature, that breaks the mold of the typical fighting game single player experience .
They'd also shown snippets of versus gameplay, with an interesting change: the seeming removal of air juggles, with characters instead entering a comboable crumple state to give the games more of a feeling of weight.

The star of the game is the new story mode, which has players exploring the SEA-inspired locale of Vilasapara.
Just like the Like a Dragon series, players can walk around the city, exploring the culturally rich area and interacting with things like shops and observing people running around.
Naturally, fights are also a part of the experience- though rather than be 1v1 fights like a typical fighting game story mode, the game turns into a brawler, as you have to fight off multiple enemies at once.
These fights can even have dramatic finishes, such as knocking out your opponent by slamming them into a refrigerator door.

While the Summer Game Fest reveal showed off one new character, RGG Studio has confirmed the game will follow four characters stories: MMA fighter Cielo, kickboxer Stella as well as two more teased but unannounced characters.
The story is described as being an anthology, with different chapters focusing on different characters as their paths weave and intersect.
