In announcement, developer Weyrdworks said that the Weyrdlets 2.0 update would launch on March 17th- wherein the game would switch to a paid model.

Interested fans can still add Weyrdlets to their library before March 17th, where they will still count as having purchased the game.

One of the reasons for switching models, according to the developers, was that it allowed for them to rebalance the economy.

"The decision follows community feedback, with many players sharing that they prefer paid games over free-to-play experiences on Steam. Moving to a paid model allows the team to continue developing Weyrdlets long-term without introducing aggressive monetisation or compromising the cozy experience players have come to expect", the statement reads.

With the new model, they've said that items will instead be purchaseable via Calcubot, as well as that "Oskar would stop hoarding items seasonally".

Users who purchased Jellystars, the premium currency will continue to be able to use them.
